This week’s episode includes a compilation of three different presentations or updates given at the RAAA National Convention.  First, we will hear from RAAA President Kyley DeVoe, where he presents his viewpoints on teamwork and the importance of the individual within a team.  Next, RAAA CEO Tom Brink gives his “State of the Association” address to members, highlighting the current healthy state of the Red Angus Breed and Association.  Lastly, RAAA Director of Commercial Marketing Kelly Smith provides a brief insight to recent updates surrounding finding increased value for marketing Red Angus influenced feeder and fat cattle.  All audio recorded was originally present with PowerPoint slides.  If these are desired to be viewed by anyone, please reach out to us at podcast@redangus.org

Join us on the final episode of the Feeder Calf Marketing Series where we speak with Pat and Laurie Holeman of Westerville, NE.  Pat and Laurie are long time commercial Red Angus producers and exemplify much of what was discussed through the Marketing Series with industry experts.  The Holemans' have built a reputation of marketing high quality open replacement heifers and feeder steers and are annual enrollees in the RAAA Feeder Calf Certification Program.  Pat and Laurie have historically marketed their calves at the Red Angus Special Feeder Calf Sale at Broken Bow Livestock, traditionally held on the first Thursday of November.  Through this episode, we discuss their history in the breed, herd health protocols and nutrition, building a reputation, ranching in central NE, amongst other topics.  We are extremely pleased with this first interview series for "Red Angus Remarks" and are extremely humbled with all the positive feedback we have received thus far.  Please reach out to us for further feedback or additional content ideas at podcast@redangus.org.

We are joined this week on "Red Angus Remarks" by Bryan Gill of Gill Red Angus.  Bryan is the RAAA Marketing Committee Chairman.  Bryan gives an overview of the role of the Marketing Committee and current updates and activities from the Committee.  Bryan's unique background within his own operation allows him to travel to numerous sale barns across the Dakotas and Northern Nebraska and allows him insights to current trends in the Feeder Calf Markets.  Bryan provides an in depth view of market expectations for yearlings and bawling calves that will move through the fall months.  The discussion concludes with brief remarks on the some exciting news that was brought to Red Angus Stakeholders at the RAAA National Convention.

On the fourth episode of Red Angus Remarks' Feeder Cattle Marketing Series, Cory speaks with Dr. Jeremy Haack of Central Plains Veterinary Services on establishing a successful herd health program to enhance value and confidence when marketing all classes of cattle.  Dr. Haack offers a unique perspective due to his experience in Practice and operating his own Red Angus seedstock operation with his wife, Asia.  Dr. Haack's practice history includes work as an employed Vet and currently in his own private practice, as well as in a variety of settings including commercial cowherds, feedyards, and retained ownership enterprises of various sizes and management practices.  Topics discussed within this conversation include establishing a Vet/Client Relationship, annual breeding stock health protocols, vaccination practices, post-weaning management practices, and conventional vs. value-added cattle marketing.  For further inquiries of Dr. Haack or other "Red Angus Remarks" content, please reach out to Cory and Taylor via podcast@redangus.org.  Links to Dr. Haack's Vet Clinic and Haack Red Angus are listed below.
